Prepare your furniture for collection

From a second-hand dining table to a new sofa, furniture delivery starts with checking the item and the route into each building. A clear description helps avoid surprises at the doorstep.

Measure the furniture and the way through

Record height, width and depth, including protruding legs or arms. Then check doors, stairs, landings and lifts at both addresses. An item that fits inside a van may still be difficult to get through the front door.

Buying from a seller or a shop?

Agree payment and collection permission with the seller. Ask whether the item is wrapped, dismantled and ready to move. Share collection hours and any order reference in your job details; the purchase itself remains between you and the seller.

Keep loose parts and fragile pieces together

Ask the seller what can be removed safely before collection. Put fixings in a labelled bag and identify which item they belong to. Describe loose glass shelves, detachable mirrors and other delicate parts separately in the inventory. Agree suitable protection with the driver; a fragile label alone does not explain how an item needs handling.

Pack small fragile items before collection

Wrap glasses and ceramics individually, then place them in sturdy boxes with padding between pieces and in empty spaces. Keep boxes manageable to lift and label their contents and destination room. Tell the driver which boxes need particular care and discuss any items that need specialist packing.

Prepare appliances using the manufacturer’s instructions

Find the manual for the exact model before arranging collection. For a washing machine, check its instructions for draining and securing the drum with the correct transit bolts. If parts are missing, ask the manufacturer for advice before moving it. Arrange disconnection and reconnection with an appropriate person, and follow the installation instructions before using it again. Tell your driver about the appliance’s weight, stairs and any handling equipment needed.

Decide what needs extra handling

Glass tops, mirrors, stone surfaces and heavy wardrobes need a clear description. Request dismantling, reassembly or an extra helper if needed. Confirm who supplies protective packaging and agree extra work and cost before booking.

Check the details before you arrange your move.

Ask us a question
Can you collect an online marketplace purchase?

You can request collection from a seller. Confirm the item, dimensions, purchase and collection arrangements first. This does not imply a partnership with the marketplace.

Is assembly included?

Assembly and dismantling are optional requests. Check that your chosen driver’s offer includes the work you need.

Can you deliver an appliance?

Describe the appliance, size, weight and access. Arrange disconnection and preparation with an appropriate person beforehand; plumbing or electrical installation is not included by default.
